Lock works great, no complaints havent had anyone try to steal it yet
I was impressed with how tough the ICON AL68DQ lock feels on a Bulldog, Ram, or etrailer sleeve-lock 2-5/16 coupler. Horse trailers have become big targets for theft, and it doesn’t take much for someone to back up and hook up if they’re not locked down. I like that this lock is built from heavy cast steel and has a design that looks intimidating and makes cutting a real chore. I love the peace of mind it gives when your trailer is parked at a barn, fairground, or out in a rural lot overnight. With four keys included and a warranty, it’s the kind of protection that makes sure your trailer and your horses stay where they belong.
A lot of trailer locks look strong, but once you hit them with an angle grinder, they are done in seconds. That’s why I was curious when Altor came by with their ICON lock. During their demo, they cut straight through a popular coupler lock right here in our shop. I will not say the brand, but you can check it out in my video. When they turned the grinder on the ICON, it barely made a dent. The layered cast steel and radial fins slow the tool down before it even reaches the lock core, and the face of the lock spins if someone tries drilling. That design wears out the drill bit instead of opening the lock. The keys cannot be duplicated easily, and the stainless housing with its weather cap keeps dirt and moisture out. Another thing I like is that these locks are not “one size fits all.” They’re made to fit specific couplers, which gives a tighter fit and better protection. For me, this feels like a real upgrade over standard locks.
Plenty of locks look rugged, but after seeing how fast an angle grinder can beat them, I don’t take appearances at face value. During Altor’s visit, they cut through a well-known coupler lock right in front of us, and you can see that in my video. Then they tried the same with the ICON lock, and it barely budged. The finned cast steel body makes a grinder’s job miserable, and the lock face spins when drilled so the bit wears out instead of the lock. I also appreciate that the keys aren’t something you can duplicate at the hardware store. With its stainless body and weather cap, it stays functional even if your trailer sits for months in the elements. Another thing I really like is that ICON tailors these locks to specific coupler types. That tighter fit gives you stronger protection and keeps your trailer from being the easy target.
